Let us explain why. We are a small business, a very small business, that hand-makes many of our products in small batches, with a slightly experimental process that takes time. Our time is limited and we handle all aspects of our business ourselves.
We believe deeply in the quality of our products and know that our products are even better in real life than they appear online. We celebrate the small differences and characteristics of each of our pieces, but recognize that not everyone feels the same way. If you are reluctant to purchase something that you have yet to see in person, we think it's safe to say that if you're drawn to it online then you will not be disappointed when you receive the product in the mail. If you are set on one of the products, but want to be sure, please reach out ahead of time for more photos and details prior to purchasing.
Thank you for taking the time to read about our policy and our business. We hope it offers answers to your questions and improves your online shopping experience with us. As always, please kindly reach out if you have any lingering questions. We are here for you!

Notary Ceramics evolved as a way to let go of control to become present in everyday life. For us working with ceramics is a way to find beauty in the uncontrollable and the so-called imperfections. We find value in drips, lines, color variations, and human marks. These are the elements we feel connect us as humans in a world that asks for perfection.
Our Process
Here at Notary Ceramics we find value in the process behind handmade ceramics. All of our ceramic pieces are either hand thrown, hand-built, pressed, or slip-cast. Each piece is then placed in a kiln to bisque fire for 16-24 hours, and then allowed to cool in preparation for glazing. Once the pieces are cooled and waxed; we dip, pour, spray, or brush the bisque ceramic with glaze to then go into the kiln for another 8-10 hours. While we know our glazes fairly well and have learned what to expect from their outcomes, there are some things in this process, particularly in glazing, that we cannot control, this is where the magic happens.
For your safety
Our clay is sourced from local suppliers in the Pacific Northwest. Our glazes are non toxic and food safe. As well as free of manganese, lead, and cadmium and are in accordance with Prop 65. Our ceramics are also both microwave and dishwasher safe.
Our Glazes
Matte White
Our Matte White is glazed on our white porcelain clay body. This is one of our more consistent glazes with little to no drips, pour lines, or color variations. Our Matte White smooth finish makes these pieces easy to clean and extremely versatile when creating a tablescape. Being a light glaze color this is also a glaze that will show a testament of use from silverware, but will stand the test of time.
Variation Scale: 1 2 3 4 5
Sand
Our Sand is glazed on our beige stoneware clay body. This smooth finish glaze shows small specs of sediment if you look closely, claiming its name of Sand. While being another one of our more consistent glazes with little to no drips or color variations, we sign our Sand glaze with a dipped line that may slightly vary. Like our Matte White glaze, this glaze will show a history of the meals that were enjoyed on it. While it does not easily stain, certain silverware will leave its mark.
Variation Scale: 1 2 3 4 5
Matte Grey
Our Matte Grey is glazed on our brown stoneware clay body. This glaze has the most raw touch and the widest range of variations of our glazes. While mimicking a grey stone-like look, this glaze also has a special characteristic known in the ceramic world as a "kiln kiss”. This is a pink tone that will sometimes be pulled from the iron in the clay. We celebrate this glaze giving each piece its own identity, with more variation of drips, pour lines, and hue tones. This glaze works like copper, with its own patina-like element the glaze holds memories of use, changing slightly in color with time.
Variation Scale: Least 1 2 3 4 5 Most
Satin Stone
Our Satin Stone is glazed on our brown stoneware clay body. This glaze carries elements of all our other glazes. While having a smooth finish like our Matte White, Sand, and Satin Black, the Satin Stone has more variation of drips, pour lines, or hue tones, like the Matte Grey. This color mimics a polished stone and is one of our most versatile glaze colors when compiling your dinnerware sets.
Variation Scale: 1 2 3 4 5
Satin Black
Our Satin Black is glazed on our brown stoneware clay body. This glaze color is the yin to the Matte Whites Yang. While contrastingly opposite to the Matte White, they have much in common. This Satin Black smooth finish makes these pieces easy to clean and extremely versatile when creating a tablescape. Unlike the Matte White, this glaze is forgiving when it comes to silverware impressions. This is one of our more consistent glazes with little to no drips, pour lines, or color variations.
Variation Scale: 1 2 3 4 5

Hand-selected for their exceptional volume and dense, plush wool, these Texel hides are expertly tanned while remaining undyed and unbleached. Originating from the windswept coastal pastures of the Netherlands, Texel sheep develop a uniquely thick, resilient coat. High fiber count ensures the wool stays plush even with heavy use. Each hide is a naturally curated for years of sustainable use. Perfect to drape over low chairs, benches, and floors.
- Approximately 35" x 24"
- Care tips:
- The Do's: Regularly take the skin outside to remove dust and restore volume. Use a wool comb in the direction of the hair to prevent felting. Occasionally mist with water if kept in dry environments (like underfloor heating) to keep the leather supple. Use a low-suction setting in the direction of the wool.
- The Don’ts: Do Not Wash. Moisture can cause the leather backing to shrink or crack. Spot clean only. Avoid Direct Sunlight: Prolonged UV exposure can alter the natural tones.
Please Note: As an undyed natural product, variations in shape, size, and tones are expected and celebrated.

Unlike the Matte White, this glaze is forgiving when it comes to silverware impressions. This is one of our more consistent glazes with little to no drips, pour lines, or color variations.

These 100% real-wool rugs keep you warm in the winter and remain breathable in the summer. The tight, natural curls stay soft for a lifetime and provide a playful yet elegant texture. Works perfectly draped over a char, a bed, or flat on the floor.
Product Details:
- 100% Genuine Crossbreed Sheepskin
- Approx. 43" x 24"
Note: As this is a natural product, each skin is unique. Variations in curl pattern, size, and shading are a testament to its authenticity.

These hand-blown glasses are made with organic, contemporary and delicate details. With a focus on sustainable and ethical production practices, every item made is composed of recycled glass from local communities and created with the use of alternative energies. Because each piece is handmade, no two are exactly the same. The variations in color and shape serve as a signature, imprinting the personality, history and talent of the hands that created it.
The studio’s glass pieces are made in an ethical and environmentally responsible production process. Their ovens are partially fueled with kitchen oil recovered from hotels and restaurants in the city of Oaxaca. Glass from used bottles is crushed and washed to be reused in the production of vases, jars, glasses and other pieces.

If an item arrives damaged, please reach out and we will help remedy the situation.

From the bestselling authors of Travel Home and Sense of Place, a comprehensive masterclass on interior design filled with practical tips, advice from some of the most respected names in the field, and inspirational examples Interior designer Caitlin Flemming always gets asked how “the rules” of professional design can be applied to any home—how to pick a paint color and get better lighting, how to mix patterns, where to hang art and curtains, how to get the right scale and placement of furniture and rugs... the list of common questions goes on. While there’s no one way to design a space, there is a teachable art to creating a harmonious home. So Flemming and her coauthor Julie Goebel came up with the idea for this book—a design bible that divulges the wisdom vouchsafed only to the pros. In The Essentials, Flemming and Goebel consolidate everything it takes to create a beautiful and comfortable home, mining all the knowledge they’ve amassed from decades designing and styling homes and antiquing and travel.
